As we near the end of 2024, we are pleased to take a step back and highlight the work performed by the Young and New Members Committee over the past year. We have loved working with our committee leaders and are truly grateful for their time and commitment to the ABI.

Quarterly Newsletters
In 2024, the committee published newsletters in March and July featuring six articles. Our March 2024 newsletter included four articles, including our “Co-Chairs’ Corner.” One of the articles discussed landlord/tenant issues in subchapter V cases. Another article was on the how to show that a legal entity acted with intent to defraud its creditors under 11 U.S.C. § 548(a)(1)(A). The last article addressed intellectual property infringement in bankruptcy cases.

Our July 2024 newsletter featured two articles: one on the Japanese version of debtor-in-possession financing, and another on how to transition successfully to a mid-level bankruptcy associate.

The Young and New Members Committee is always looking for authors for our newsletter. Writing for our committee newsletter is a great way to get more involved with the committee and to get published with ABI. If you have any interest in writing for the newsletter, please reach out to Newsletter Editors Leti Douglass Boots or Joy Kleisinger (their email addresses are below). The deadline to submit a topic for our Spring 2025 newsletter is Feb. 21, 2025, and articles are due March 7, 2025.

ABI’s Annual Spring Meeting
At ABI’s Annual Spring Meeting on April 20, 2024, the committee partnered with the Emerging Industries & Technology Committee to present a panel titled, “A Brave New World: Use of Technology and Ethical Considerations in Post-Pandemic Practice.” The panelists consisted of Hon. Martin R. Barash (U.S. Bankruptcy Court (C.D. Cal.); Woodland Hills), Jarrett P. Hitchings (Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, LLP; Charlotte, N.C.), Nathan M. Crystal (Crystal & Giannoni-Crystal, LLC; Charleston, S.C.) and Mark G. McCreary (Fox Rothschild LLP; Philadelphia).

ABI’s Winter Leadership Conference
Education Directors Gabrielle G. Palmer and Jack O’Connor planned the committee’s panel for ABI’s Winter Leadership Conference, which was presented on Dec. 13, 2024. The committee partnered with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee to present a panel titled, “Unlocking Potential: The Art of Effective Workplace Mentorship.” The panel included Hon. Daniel P. Collins (U.S. Bankruptcy Court (D. Ariz.); Phoenix), Christopher Ward (Polsinelli; Wilmington, Del.), Kimberly A Posin (Latham & Watkins; Los Angeles) and Amalia Sax-Bolder (Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck LLP; Denver).

Looking Ahead to 2025
In 2025, the committee will be working with Kristina Stanger (ABI Board liaison) to identify ways for our committee members to get involved and generate programming that ABI can offer to our committee members. We are very excited about the progress so far and the potential for 2025. If you have any suggestions or proposals for programming geared toward more junior members of ABI, please connect with any members of our leadership team.

Of course, newsletter articles are a great way to become involved, so please contact Newsletter Editors Joy Kleisinger and Leti Douglass Boots with your ideas and submissions. We also invite you to share with us any other questions or thoughts that you may have regarding the Young and New Members Committee or ABI in general.

We look forward to meeting and working with more of you in the future!
