Co-Chairs’ Corner |
The Ethics and Professional Compensation Committee had another successful year in 2024. Our activities continued to keep our members and the insolvency community apprised of relevant recent developments and hot topics while also offering fun and beneficial social and networking opportunities.
- At the Annual Spring Meeting in Washington, D.C., our committee partnered with the Real Estate Committee to discuss particular ethical issues arising in real estate bankruptcies, including the importance of candor to the court as to out-of-court events, and considerations for debtor’s counsel and other professionals in distinguishing the estate’s interests from the interests of the debtor’s insiders.
- At the Winter Leadership Conference, we joined with the Commercial Fraud Committee for a panel addressing the ethical quandaries presented in recent high-profile bankruptcy matters, including the cases filed by FTX, Kenneth Chesebro and Rudolph Giuliani, and the potential misconduct of former Bankruptcy Judge David Jones in the Southern District of Texas.
- Our committee’s 2024 newsletters — thanks to the valuable insights of our members who contributed — covered ethics and compensation issues in connection with such topics as the emerging use of AI, subchapter V and consumer bankruptcies.
- Last but not least, the committee continued to focus on organizing gatherings at ABI national and regional conferences to promote active membership and offer networking opportunities.
Our committee is only successful because of its engaged membership and outstanding board. Thank you all for your many contributions over the past year. We look forward to our current membership’s continued involvement in 2025 — and if you are not yet a member, we encourage you to join us in the new year! |
